Error when backing up

I just bought a new MYbook elite, it was update with firmware and software up to date. When I go to backup it most of the files fail to back up and I am given the following error:

error hresult e_fail has been returned from a call to a com component 

any suggestions on what the issue is

Uninstall the WD Smartware, restart the computer and install the software again.

OK I will try that and let you all know how it goes. Any idea on what is going on?
