Encrypting an existing EX2 Ultra, what else do I need to do?

I have been using my EX2 Ultra for a few months and realise now that I need to encrypt the data stored on it.
I have found article Answer ID 16538, Encrypting a RAID Volume on a My Cloud Device, but it posed a few questions. I have already backed up the data I wish to retain in readiness for the encryption.

So,

  1. If I follow the procedure, will it mean that the users, shares and passwords I have already set up are lost too?
  2. I will have a back up the configuration, but will that backup insist the drives are non-encrypted?
  3. Are there any other gotchas I should be aware of?
