Elements - I:\ drive - 600+GB of files disappeared. Disk management say drive is healthy and files are there, but only folder that shows up is AVG hidden folder. This happened once before but corrected itself. Drive appears to be spinning up a storm, but no access.
Hello,
You can try the chkdsk command.

Don’t use your drive before you find again your data, they could be overwrited…
If really needed, the best recovery software I found is “Ontrack EasyRecovery Professional”. It’s expensive but very efficient (and TPB is your friend if you have little money :p)
Just as last time I rebooted, when I woke up this morning the folders are all back - about 12 hours later. Subfolder windows are slow to populate but eventually do and the drive is once again available to the network. I suspect, as before, the drive will remain available until the next reboot, then I’ll have to wait another half a day for the drive to show up. Drive is still spinning though.
Mostly used for backups, I’ll take advantage of the fact that is up and copy off those folders that are not backups of other drives.
I’m not saying I don’t need to run chkdsk but is it possible the USB components of the Elements is failing? Also, This issue could seem to coincide with the latest AVG program update. Hard to tell as this machine rarely reboots.
