EasyStore 8TB - Encrypted?

I’m very interested in getting a WD EasyStore 8TB. However, I do NOT want a drive that has hardware encryption, e.g. it is tied to the controller board and the data cannot be read without it. I do not plan to shuck it, but if the controller dies I want to be able to recover the data without a fuss.

Although there is a chart that shows that the EasyStore doesn’t have hardware encryption, it is undated and claims that there is only one member of the entire EasyStore product line, so I have no idea if it is currently accurate or not.

If the EasyStore has this encryption in hardware, are there any other drive models to recommend that do not have this aspect?

Yes, WD Easystore drive has no hardware encryption feature as it doesn’t support WD Security.

i dont believe this.
i have an easystore and it recently became encrypted.
it is also 8tb.
