DX4000 INITIAL CONFIG. hangs at 0%

G’day,

I’m installing the DX4000 Windows Storage Server 2008 r2 and when it starts preparing your server… it just hangs at 0%.
Not sure on the issue.

Installing from windows 10 laptop.
If anyone could give me a hand getting it up and running it would be appreciated.

Regards,

Mally

So after the initial 3 hours of 0% I’m now on 2%.

It changed from 1% too 2% in about 30mins.
Hopefully it doesnt take 50hrs too install when it says “This may take up to 30 minutes.”

You made the mistake of selecting check for updates. If you ever do this again always select never check.

All you can do now is just sit back and see what happens

Cheers Gramps!

I’ll just sit it out and wait a few days I guess…
It’s up to 4% now :joy: :joy: :joy:

 :beers: while I wait I guess!

Thanks again!

Mally

No worries. I/we just normally suggest that you select never check for updates for 2 reasons. The first you know about  The second is we know it works with no updates but we have no clue what may come down the pike to finger with it.

Since it is headless you just need to wait and hope the power does not go off on the server or your win 10 box. You might disable win 10 updates until it is percolating

No worries, I’ll just let it go hopefully it speeds up soon.
Seems too be going up 1% every 20-30mins…

There is no way of cancelling and starting again without the updates?

I am not sure of the answer to that so I will say not

G’day Gramps,

So I’ve managed to get it up and running! Now it shows me that I only have 2TB available… shouldn’t it be 4TB? and about connecting my domain name is says I have too use GoDaddy? surely I can use my current provider?

Regards,

Mally

yea boyz

Well depends on what drives are in it. If you have two 2tb drives it put them in a raid 1 for you (mirror) so you will have 2tb useable. Actually about 1.87tb If you have three 2tb drives it will put them in a raid 5 and you will have 4tb useable.

If you have a static IP and your own domain name and are not already using port 80 and 443 from afar, you can use your own name.

What you do need to do though is go through the wizard selecting get a free personalized name from Microsoft. This will allow the wizard to complete and configure everything. At this point everything will work with free.remotewebaccess.com and you can do everything except get to desktops with yourdomain.com If you want to get to desktops using yourdomain.com you will need to follow the instructions from your domain provider to install your cert. You actually did not say if you had a cert, just a domain name.

oh, you should go ahead and install the uEFI hot fix if you plan on doing client backups

it offers two just get the top one. Does not matter which one, but if I tell you to get the top one you can click with confidence LOL

Thanks Gramps,

I’ll give that a go and let you know how it all turns out. I’ll try the wizard out and see it might be all i need!

and I have full confidence in your advice haha it’s all worked so far!

Cheers

Got the T-Shirt [grin]

FWIW, doing a fresh install myself and there are like 249 updates in the first batch. Takes forever

Good day Gramps,

I have stuck with initial config setup also. It stopped at 94%(both places) for about 3 hours till now.

What should I do? Any suggestion?

Regards,
Iqbal.

Not sure. Some products have common hang percents that mean something, but this does not ring a bell. The fellow below had the same issue and rebooted his Client PC. My suggestion is to wait a bit more.

It may just be your picture, but do you really just have 3 drives in your box? There are some log files we can look over but I am no expert at log files. I would not power off the server at this time.

Thanks for the reply. still halt at 94%. yes 3 drives in the box as one become faulty. needed to reset to factory default.

If you did not initialize the drives (Diskpart:Clean) they more than likely still have to old raid config in them. As in when it finally boots it will say degraded

If you did the middle recreate step and still have the thumb drive, look in the wd folder for the log file. At the end it should show the raid config.

Yes i did the middle recreate step. Find below details from the log file.

In any event I think you will be fine eventually. That said if one drive died and they all last about the same time perhaps another one is dropping?

So either wait or log into the server desktop and look around. I feel it is hung creating the server folders share on D: This can easily be done by hand though.

On a client PC start>run> MSTSC
User Administrator password be whatever you set. If all you see on the desktop is the wizard you will have to close it with ALT-F4 You will then get the desktop and can look around

After Closing the wizard with ALT-F4, I got the desktop. wanted to open the dashboard got below error.

setup wizard in client pc still running on 94% and sentinel displays also 94% of initial config and i can see the server desktop remotely. what does it mean? Storage server is ready?
