Is this thing smart enough to play DVD’s that are on disk…i.e. .ifo files? Or do you need a media server for that…and if so, is TVersity the way to go, or is there an easier/better way?..z
Depends on what “This Thing is.” 
The Live PLUS plays DVDs, the Live only plays them if you have the Beta firmware. They must be on local disk or Network Shares. Media Servers don’t support DVD.
