I dropped my Passport 350GB hard drive on hard wood and after reconnecting it to my laptop it reads that nothing is on it and it requires a formatting. After hitting ‘cancel’ to the format prompt it prompts an error message: “H:/ is not accessible. Data error (cyclic redundancy check).” I don’t want to write over all my data- it contains so many personal photographs and the only copies of many work related files which (as luck would have it) I need today. Is there any way to fix this? I’ve tried fixing the ‘cycle redundancy check’ in My Computer and that hasn’t solved anything.
It was probably physically damaged in the fall. Fixing that and recovering any data is a professional job.
When the hard drive fell it disconnected from its chord connected to the computer. At the time files were being written to the hard drive via a download.
