Drive won't start

I have a WD1600CO32 external hard drive.  My computer crashed and now I am trying to recover my files from the external hard drive but all I  get is a “clicking” sound for a few seconds and the USB port won’t open it.  Is this drive shot too?   Would appreciated any advise if it can be recovered.

You might now be getting enough power to the drive.  Try connecting it directly to a wall plug, and see if it shows up.

Is there anything I can do if it still won’t start after plugging it directly into the wall?  I can hear a faint hum and feel the vibration but the rings don’t light up.  Can I install it in an enclosure and if so, how do I get it out and what enclosure can I use?  I really don’t want to loose the files stored on this drive.
