It was a SimpleTech Signature Mini with a WD3200BEVT drive. It worked well for years, though I probably only accessed it a few dozen times.
I tried to access it again this week, but to no avail.
- The power indicator lights continuously when plugged into a USB port but the activity indicator led only flashes momentarily when first plugged in.
- I’ve tried a single USB connection as well as the dual-USB with the Y cable.
- The drive is spinning–I can hear and feel it. It is not clicking repeatedly.
- I’ve tried different USB ports on various laptops running Windows 7 and I’ve tried to access via mac. I’ve even tried to access while running in XP virtual mode. No luck.
- I tried a different SATA to USB cable and the results were the same.
- I did not drop it, spill water on it, or any other out-of-the-ordinary occurence.
- It shows up in device manager.
- It shows up in disk management as Disk 1, Healthy (Active, Primary Partition), however, no drive letter is associated with it at the top of the disk management window.
- I can’t simply right-click in disck management and change drive letter because that option is grayed out. The only options for me when I right-click are ‘delete volume’ and ‘help’.
- I ran Data Life Guard and the drive passed both the quick and extended tests. SMART data comes up as not available.
- HD Sentinel shows 100% performance and 97% health. SMART data is available.
Is this a problem with the USB card? Would any other info be helpful?
Thanks.
