It can vary.

Is yours bricked?   If not, you can find out from the command line.

For example:

MyBookLive:~# smartctl -a /dev/sda | grep Model
Device Model: WDC WD10EARS-00MVWB0

Yes, mine is bricked. Thanks for the reply. I bought a QNAP NAS and I want to put the drive in it. I need to know if it is compatible.

bricked as in hardware failure or software?

If it is software, you can restore MBL by following the debrick guides.

If it is hardware and you are set on removing the hard drive, makes no difference, right?
