Mybook is almost completely full. Erasing a backup volume with Windows Explorer isn’t going to work well. I have WD Drive Utilies and Drive Erase. After the erasing what should I download and install? Is there a correct order?

You don’t need to install anything on the drive in order to use it again.
The drive should be seen on the computer as a external device.
