Does Windows Backup need to still be used?

sorry for my ignorance, but i was wondering since now that i own a 4TB My Book External HD, and its cappiable of backing up my system 1 times a week at a given time, do i need to keep windows back up on, or can i shut that off now? or can i totally rely on my 4TB My Book external HD to do the job for me now instead of windows.

Because as it stands now, windows 7 see’s my 4TB and wants to back up my entire system on it, but it gets about 3/4 of the way through and then sends an error giving me 2 options, 1, RETRY Backup or 2. Change Back up Settings.

This has been happening to me now for the last 2 days since i’ve owned it.

I am hoping you will reply to me and say…TURN OFF YOUR WINDOWS BACK UP AND TOTALLY RELY ON YOUR 4TB MY BOOK.

If anybody can help me on this i THANK YOU.

Norm.

Hello,

The WD My Book 4TB comes with a backup software called WD Smartware. If you have set up Smartware to do backups then you can turn off the Windows backup. However, please note WD Smartware will only backup files on your computer, it will not backup programs/software/applications.
