Does wd smartware backup when away from network

i have just installed wd smartware and works ok on my home network, when away from home smartware cannot find the drive is that correct? should i be able to find my hard drive when away from home and backup constantly

WD Smartware does not support backups from a remote location. It backups only when you are on the local network.
