Does Mycloud replaces Dropbbox or other cloud solutions

If you haven’t already done so you should read the My Cloud User Manual for the My Cloud device you are looking at to gain a better understanding of the My Cloud device and its features/operation. See the following link for more information and support:

The My Cloud units are a network attached storage device. They are not a traditional “cloud” based backup service or location. Generally, with the single bay/single drive My Cloud units one has to use the WD software, MyCloud.com web portal, or the insecure FTP to upload/download files from a My Cloud stored at a remote/off site location.

Generally if you want “Dropbox” like operation then pay for Dropbox or similar online storage solutions. The My Cloud is generally aimed at the user who needs a network attached storage device on their local network that also has limited remote access capabilities.

WD removed the capability to “remote map” a My Cloud over a year ago and has no plans to reintroduce that feature. It was that feature that made the My Cloud more like online storage services like Dropbox in that you could drag/drop files to a remotely mapped My Cloud device in Windows File Explorer or Mac Finder.

There are various unofficial methods to modify the My Cloud units, using SSH, to provide remote mapping of the My Cloud. But those methods are not supported by WD and may void the My Cloud warranty.
