Like many people, I bought MyCloud Home to use as storage for backups. I have spent many hours reading community, WD and backup software vendor websites and documents, but I cannot find anyone who has made this work. I am about to take the device back to the shop, but before I do… IF you have got backups working then I suspect that there will be many people keen to underdstand exactly how. Which software? How is the device selected as the target for the backups? Etc.

the my cloud home has a private user space and a default public share. For backup programs you would need to use the default public share. WD suggests timemachine for mac and windows file history backup for windows
My device was pre-configured with a folder called “Family” - I wonder whether that is simply a renamed equivalent of “Public”. There is no Public folder on the device once installed.
I’ve now got it working using FileHistory, with the “public area” really just being the root directory of the MyCloud device.
