Does a M.2 card need a heat sink?

does a M.2 card like the WD-Blue-SN550-NVMe require a heat sync when used in a common home PC?

For office applications it’s a waste of money.
Maybe it’s a different story for extreme video applications, which I don’t use.

For performance it won’t matter very much in a desktop scenario, but for longevity of the controller chip it might, if done right. Have a look over here. On the other hand it won’t hurt much either.
