Do i need to use the smart software to back up?

hi,

i just got a passport yesterday. i didn’t realise that i had to format it before use (or is that necessary).

the smartware was set up and i mapped my C drive (windows obviously). it created it’s own segregation.

now i plan to use this to backup images, work files, movies. the syncing may not really work for me?

can i just use it like a regular pen-drive and copy/remove files from it at will?

any help is appreciated.

If you have WD Sync on the drive, you don’t have to use it.  As a matter of fact, I wouldn’t use it for backups.  You can either copy and paste your files to the drive, or you can use something like the Windows Backup utility.
