Do I need the WD software to access my network drive?

I’m very happy with my new  MyBookLive. However, I have no interest in using it to share photos, etc., nor as a way to access my data from elsewhere. I just want to copy stuff to it, and I’d rather not have to deal  with ‘Shares’ and a folder structure other than my own. Can I simple delete what’s on it and access it from my PCs directly? My network consists of two Win PCs, one Win XP PC, and a Mac OS 10.58, all four of which can ‘see’ the drive.

Thanks for your help.
