Disappointed!

You should be complaining to Amazon, not WD.

WD’s documentation clearly stipulates that the drive is targeted at PC users.

Here is what I have been able to find out about the WD1001X06XDTL:

WD Black2 SSD/HDD Review:

The drive incorporates a Marvell 88SM9642-NMD2 6Gbps SATA port multiplier chip.

These chips appear similar:

The SSD has a JMicron controller.

ISTM that the combo drive consists of two separate HDDs behind a SATA port multiplier. When the HDD is initially installed in a PC system, only the SSD portion is visible. A Windows driver (provided by WD) is required to see the 1TB HDD portion. Presumably this driver is for the SATA port multiplier. I would expect that a driver will eventually be released for OSX. I’m not a Mac person, but I wonder if it might be worth searching for Marvell based port multiplier cards that are compatible with Macs, and then experimenting with their OSX drivers.
