Hi everyone, I have a My Cloud Mirror with two 2TB drives. One of the drives started showing errors after three years, and I believe it’s not a drive fault but rather due to online time of 3 years. So, I replaced the faulty drive with a new 2TB one, and it worked perfectly. However, after a few weeks, the original 2TB drive started showing errors again. I removed that drive, and My Cloud was functioning normally, but without the second drive.
In an attempt to resolve the issue, I purchased a new drive with 4TB and installed it without thinking. Unfortunately, it now prompts me to set up RAID. I realized my mistake when I thought removing the 4TB drive would restore the system to its original 2TB configuration, but it’s still showing me the RAID setup option.
I’m at a loss and don’t want to lose my data. Could anyone please suggest a solution to this problem?
Two drives. . .call them “A” and “B” set up as Raid1? (I presume yes)
Drive “A” shows an error. . .and is replaced with drive A1.
The device should have then copied all the data from “B” onto “A1”.
Until that is completed, the Raid is operating in a “Degraded state”.
Then a drive shows fault. . . which one? A1 or B?
Do you know if the Raid was restored to normal before the second failure? (The mirroring process will take longer than you think).
Note: When you remove the drive with fault. . . the raid is NOT normal. It is operating in a degraded state.
So I think we need a bit more info to give solid advice.
Worst case scenario: Take the old drives and attach them to a PC, and read off the data with a Linux reader.
Hi @NAS_user thanks for the questions and details. My responses below in capitals.
Two drives. . .call them “A” and “B” set up as Raid1? YES RAID 1.
Drive “A” shows an error. . .and is replaced with drive A1.
The device should have then copied all the data from “B” onto “A1”.
Until that is completed, the Raid is operating in a “Degraded state”.
YES. COPIED AND SUCCESSFUL.
Then a drive shows fault. . . which one? A1 or B? B showed error now.
Do you know if the Raid was restored to normal before the second failure? THE RAID WAS SUCCEDED SUCCESSFULLY. I AM SURE OF THIS, BECAUSE, I USED THE MY CLOUD REMOVING THE B DRIVE AND ONLY KEEPING A1.
I hope that helps to get me a proper response.
BTW, I will read about the Linux reader.
