Difference WD LIVE TV HD - WDL LIVE Streaming Media Player

Hi everyone,

I have two questions :

  • is there somewhere a list of difference between the good old WD LIVE TV HD and the new WDL LIVE Streaming Media Player ?

  • I have a AC3 old home cinema which can’t read DTS signal, so I have to reencode DTS to AC3 every single movie using that format before watching them.

The old WD LIVE TV HD couldn’t convert DTS to AC3 output through the digital output. Is the new WDL LIVE Streaming Media Player able to output DTS (on file) to AC3 (output)?

No.   Licenses don’t allow TRANSCODING from one proprietary format to another.

But on the WD, you can tell it that your downstream device (HDMI at least) does not support DTS, and it will decode it to PCM.

I’ve never tried it so I don’t know how well it works…

works to PCM 2 channels… not very useful.

If DTS → AC3 is a licence problem it’s lame.
