Did I get a bad Hard Drive?

Hi All,

I have tried using both clonezilla and then Macrium Reflect to create a clone of my 640GB WD Caviar Black HDD to my brand new 2TB WD Black. I took the old HDD out completely.

I have windows 7 ultimate with i7-6700 Asus Z170 mobo and 16GB of ram. Everything appeared to go smoothly with the clone it allows me to log in and do normal stuff and then between 5 to 45 minutes, my computer just freezes up and then crashes (shows blue screen). My computer crashes every single time. Could I have gotten a bad hard drive?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

  1. surface test of both of them
  2. bad sector test for the old one
  3. fix the bad sectors, when discovered
  4. smartmontools for Win, test the disk drives
