I have a Dell 745 Optiplex with a WDC WD800JD-75MSA3 80 Gb hard drive.
I get noises from the desk top hard drive. Sometimes they are worse than others.
I have scanned with NUMEROUS anti-virus / malware products…including Malwarebytes & SpyBot…nothing found.
I’ve used Process Explorer and it shows that DPC’s (Deferred Procedure Calls) are happening when the noises occur.
I have posted about those on several other forums…including MS TechNet and Windows BBS…with NO one willing to discuss DPC’s other than to state that my hard drive is going bad.
I downloaded the various forms of the Lifeguard Diagnostics.
The CD version didn’t recognize the “terms” text file. Support said to try the Windows version or the floppy version.
Floppy version didn’t work either…so I used the Windows version.
I performed BOTH the Quick Scan and the Extended Test…and had no errors found.
Any ideas?
Do you have any other of the computers specs such as RAM size and processors speed?
Hi Lawrence…hope this helps…
