Device offline, breathing white light

This has been a nightmare. I bought My Cloud Home about two years ago. Transferred all the family pictures from an external hard drive, then erased the hard drive. I’ve never been able to get the My Cloud Home to work again. It says “Device Offline” and the white light is slow-blinking (breathing). I called support multiple times and no one was able to help me. I could have cried. I probably did cry, coming to think of it. I got a quote to send it in and see if they could get the files off it from a third-party vendor who works with WD, it was just over $400. I didn’t have the money at the time (because I’d just bought this drive for $200+) and the drive has been sitting here ever since. Now I got an email from WD saying I had to update the firmware on the drive or lose access to my files forever (LOL already lost them, thanks very much) so I’m trying again and already want to beat my head against a wall. What am I supposed to do now?

I am sorry for your loss. At this point you have nothing to lose by plugging it into your router LAN port and wait for it to update and see if your device is recoverable. There are other router settings you can try, but there is no harm in connecting it to the internet and see if it can recover.
