Delivered from RMA (WD1500HLFS-01MZUV0)

i just got my drive delivered from RMA (WD1500HLFS-01MZUV0) after my last one seemed to have these same issues, at first once i plugged in the new drive it started the dreaded ticking of a soon to be faulty drive, which as u will know usually mean the headers are going or have gone.

It slowed my pc to a crawl when booting but after i was fully booted i got access to the drive, formatted it and tried to transfer some data to it. at this point my pc hung for about 30 seconds before continuing the transfer but then the transfer failed saying the drive was not detected. this has happened over 10 times so far with in 2 hours. The drive dropped out a few time at which point i had to refresh my device manager to detected it again. Every time i try and access the drive it also hangs my pc. so iv had to upplug it.

i have new hardware from what my last drive was plugged into so it very unlikely its a hardware issue.

i have performed quick and full tests using your data lifegaurd software as well as doing a fill write zero and testing again, im getting these errors when testing ----

Test Option: QUICK TEST
Model Number: WDC WD1500HLFS-01MZUV0
Unit Serial Number: WD-WXD1EC0CNY47
Firmware Number: 04.05G04
Capacity: 150.04 GB
Test Result: FAIL
Test Error Code: 06-Quick Test on drive 2 did not complete! Status code = 07 (Failed read test element), Failure Checkpoint = 97 (Unknown Test) SMART self-test did not complete on drive 2!
Test Time: 01:16:23, October 21, 2011

Is there anything im missing that u can help me with or do i have to have another RMA sorted and a new drive, Also i know this is properly not the reason as your WD will make sure the dive in 100% before sending it out again but the drive was a reconditioned drive not a new one.

I contacted customer support last ngiht and just got this reply:

Thank you for contacting Western Digital Customer Service and Support.

I will now pass your case to our review team to approve your request to replace the faulty replacement drive.

As soon as I get an answer I will let you know of the result.

Seems as though i might be able to get anotehr replacement drive but before that i just want to make sure there isnt anthing i can do first,  Mainly because battlefeild 3 is out on next friday and want to have a nice newly installed system on my Vraptor before had lol

I’d phone them and RMA it over the phone as soon as possible. If you have your drive registered it’s easy (might be anyway) and you won’t be eating up warranty time on the refurbished drive they replace yours with.

RMA service is free or will it cost to you?

Hi well you have to pay the shipping to the return center, but they pay to send you the replacement drive.

It should have told you to run the extended test; it will so a surface scan and mark bad sectors.  Then, do another quick test.
