Does the WD ext hard drive delete files that I delete on my computer, before backup?

The backup software keeps files deleted from the PC drive, so an accidentally removed file can be recovered. My practice is NOT to delete files after they are backed up. To many times the external drive will fail, and all the files are lost: Family pictures, videos, etc.
If the external drive fills up WD Backup software will refuse new files and offer to delete old versions.
