Defragmentation

hi,

On my wd my cloud 3TB personal cloud storage is some data. But on the web app (user interface( http://wdmycloud/UI/# )

it won’t show how much space I have used/left. If I look for the capacity of all my documents on the cloud itself then I have another problem because it seems that my cloud doesn’t defragmentate itself. Therfore I have some folders with content of 10GB and it takes up to 14 GB of space on the cloud.

My questions:

  1. Is there a way I can defragment my cloud?

  2. Is there a way I can see ho mutch capacity is left/used?

kindest regards

How have you measured file size & disk usage?

What sort of files are they? If there are lots of little files, you may be seeing the consequence of the large sector size used on a NAS.

Is the 10GB just a test, to investigate usage when you actually start filling the 3TB capacity…?

It seems to be generally accepted that ext4 file system, used by Linux on the MyCloud, does not need defragmenting:

You can see how much space is left or how much is being used by clicking on the “>” icon just below and right of the total capacity on the Home screen. You can also check the capacity used by using SSH and issuing the following command: “df -h /DataVolume/”

Edit to add: Selecting the “>” icon below and left of the Diagnosis indicator on the Home screen will also give one the amount of free space left.
