DDNS and MBLD

Hi guys.

I had a Lacie Nas some days ago but it died so now I bought a my book live duo 4TB.

I set all network setting in control panel, I registered a ddns service on router and I also opened router ports. When I try to access to MBLD in intranet I digit 192.168.0.100 and it shows me the control panel. But if I’d connect to MBLD when I’m outdoor and I try to put in browser http://myddns.com:80 or http://myddns.com:443 I receive the following message:

Forbidden

You don’t have permission to access /UI on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

In my old LaCie Nas I could access this address outdoor but now this isn’t possible.

I also turn FTP service on in control panel and I can access via FTP only in intranet.

So is there a way to access MBLD outdoor without using wd2go.com service???

Yup… WD prevents remote access to the control panel.

You can modify the security policies of the web browser if you’re determined to do it…

There’s several How-To guides on what to do for that.

But I lose my warranty right?

Dunno what WD’s official stance is on that.

BTW, not that you don’t have your own reasons, but I’ve always been curious why anyone would ever want to allow remote management of a NAS.

Your whole netowork can be potentially accessed if someone hacks that single, simple little password.

The ONLY things I allow for manual port-forwarding are SSH to a secure Linux box (with a secure baseline OS) – and VPN tunnels.

EDIT:  And secure “blind” FTP server.  :)
