Daughter dropped ext. Book how can I retrieve files?

My daughter had dropped my Book from 2009 and was dropped 2011. Since then I have kept it in storage. It still lights up but it does not make any noises or shows on the desktop. I opened the case and noticed overheating of the plastic and very little to the circuit board.

How did that even happen?

Was there something I missed 4-5 years ago about these products overheating?

What are my options just to retrive the files?

  1. Replace the damaged circuit board (where/how much, plug and play maybe) ebay products?

  2. If anyone has the same circuit board as I do and swap just for the storage retrieval.

  3. Convert ext. drive to become internal.

Most of all I would like to do it in home. Sending the book out for retrieveal for >$1000 no thanks.

Hello,

I really don’t recommend trying to recover the files at home. Especially if you have very important files you want to recover.

I recommend you consider a data recovery company.
