Suddently my data has disappeared from my Elements 1.5 TB drive. The drive still works fine, but 4 years of professional photos are gone. I’m beginning to think that none of these drives are any good. I treat it with kid gloves, never even bumped. There must be a more reliable way to back up and store. I guess the only option is to try data recovery? Just threw a really nice Iomega 1.5 TB in the trash too.
Hi, two thing might be happening, either the information is corrupted or the folders are hidden, to recover the files you can use data recovery program like recuva or teskdisk. To check the steps to view hidden files and folders check the link below,

The only reliable way to backup data is to have two copies of it on separate devices. Irreplaceable Misison Critical data should be placed on 3 physically separate devices. A good backup strategy will be tolerant of hardware failure.
I should also add that unless you know the exact failure mode of the drive, it is best to leave the work to someone who can diagnose it. If you simply deleted the information or got a corrupt file system, then freeware utlities can work. If the disk is failing due to a mechanical or electronic problem, then it’s pro-service time.
