Same trouble for me (Win7 Home Prem 64bit ENG + 0patch + Avast + Mbam. Dual booting w 64bit Arch Linux) Hw: Asrock Z68 Extreme4 (having both an Intel and a Marvell SE9120 SATA ctrler), Intel i5-2500K and 2x8GB DDR3.
Storage: Sammy 840 EVO SATA SSD + ditto 830 SATA SSD (Linux ext4fs)+ 2 x WD20EARX (one of which is ext4fs) + 2 x Toshiba P300 3TB (both ext4fs) + USB3 dual dock with a Sammy HD103SJ (ext4fs) and a WD10EADS) All six hard drives have GPT partition except the non-Linux WD20EARX that uses the old MBR schema .
After a first time ever install of Dashboard, when trying to start the program v3.2.29 it only shows “Loading” and then absolutety nothing happens… so I have to kill it using Task Manager!
And when uninstalling the whole alpha/beta mess of a program Windows reports success but the all files are STILL present afterwards in C:\Program Files (x86)\Western Digital\ folder & subfolders. And the same goes for C:\Users\(username)\Appdata\Local\Western Digital\ also! Yikes, thats must be real goodwill for your company! Also the setup installs a Program Group together with link (.lnk) on my Desktop without even asking the poor guinea pig/user for permission - hmm.
You can expect a visit from Lt Columbo any minute now…
EDIT: OK - after a reboot of my Windows 7 all seems to be OK. However the WD10EADS in my USB3 dock does not show up - pity!
Now it worked on my Lenovo T490 as well. Clean installed 20H2. WD 512gb SN730. So cannot reproduce anymore. Maybe WD can do server side changes, without updating WD Dashboard?
I’m not getting the blank screen, but my copy of 3.2.2.9 rescans the drives in my PC continuously, to the point of making the program unusable.
I have 5 drives; one SSD on the motherboard, two gold drives in the PC and two MyBook drives using USB3.
Made a video of the problem but this BBS won’t accept MP4 or ZIP files and a simple bitmap graphic doesn’t show the problem.
Thank you for your patience regarding this matter.
About the blank screen issue when launching WD Dashboard, it is indeed connected with QtWebEngine. Our engineering department is aware of it and is working on releasing an update of the software that will resolve this issue in the future.
For the time being unfortunately there is no work around for it.
We apologize for the inconvenience"
Unfortunately, no reason as to why QtWebEngine fails to launch on some systems, has been stated in the above reply from WD Support
@LostLinuxGuy ,
BTW, just as a feedback… IMHO, the whole “Web View” (QtWebEngine) idea is cheap digital marketing “smoke and mirrors” and nothing else. Why do you need it at all? Looking at this screenshot, I’d like to say that it looks just stupid.
The whole “digital marketing” part is not a big deal, if it’s not too annoying (e.g. just causing minor UX inconveniencies, eats few hundreds of megabytes of RAM and few percent of CPU for nothing), but when it just breaks the product at all… Well, that’s a whole new crazy “digital era”…
That is, personally, I’d prefer a simple SpeedFan-like UI.
I too have had this issue for the last 6 months. I logged a ticket with WD support and was told it was an issue with my OS. Originally occurred on W10, running W11 now.
However…
I have been able to resolve by revert to V2.3.0.5, downloadable from the WD portal. It took a bit to find the link but this should allow you to download. I uninstalled all current versions and installed… worked straight out of the bag. just couldn’t update to the latest version as the problem reoccurs.
