Dashboard Issues

Evening all,

I’ve had my wd mycloud for 10 days now, and today was the 3rd time I have been unable to access the dashboard.  On each occassion I made sure all other equipment connected to the network was turned off, including my mobile phones, i tried connecting both wireless and through the ethernet but with no success.  I tried mannually entering the IP address and http://mycloud

The mycloud was still visible on the network and i could stream movies to my ps3 and view documents via my computer with no issue, i just could not connect to the dashboard.

Anyway, on each occassion I had to uninstall/delete the dashboard and reinstall it, and i could then access the dashboard, but with one issue; my IP Address has changed, in the 10 days i’ve had http://***.***.1.6, http://***.***.1.7 and now http://***.***.1.3.

Is this something I can stop? Have i overlooked something in the setup.  Appreciate any help

The ip for your MyCLoud changes because its default mode is DHCP and your router changes his ip each time it reconnects.

To avoid this you have (or not…) two options:

  • Assign a fixed ip in MyCLoud dashboard…CAUTION A MISTAKE IN IP/DNS SETTINGS COULD SOFT BRICK YOUR DEVICE! ( IF YOU DON’T BELIEVE IT SEARCH YELLOW LIGHT IN THIS FORUM)

  • If you have a good router it will be possible to assign a fixed ip for the mac address of your MyCLoud from the dhcp address pool.

This is a secure option you will be able to revert without messing with ip configs in MyCLoud dashboard…

Cheers Sam,

I’m not comfy messing with settings etc so I’ll give he first option a miss

I’ve got a bog standard router that came with my broadband package, i’ll do a bit of research and see if i can assign a fixed IP
