Custom S3 endpoint

Hello,

I’m currently trying to back up my NAS on an S3 compatible provider.
S3 is defined as an open protocol, and many cloud providers, including OVH, Alibaba Cloud, and Oracle launched their S3 compatible service.

When configuring our S3 backup rule, we’ve been asked to select a region:
Capture d’écran 2022-07-03 à 18.10.32
But we need to use a custom endpoint (which means a custom region).

I’ve figured out that there was a dedicated configuration file containing:

root@NAS-Tom etc # cat s3.conf
# Example s3 configuration

Usr admin
Job backup-rule-name-here
dir 0
state 4
error_code 64
count 0
backuptype 0 location 1
AccessesKey AccessKey-here
PrivateKey PrivateKey-here
BucketPath home
NASPath /mnt/HD/HD_a2/Tom - Fichiers
Encrypt 0
Schedule Mode=Manual,Date=,Wday=0,Time=0:0
LogPath

How we can proceed to bypass this thing?
Thanks!

Hi @tjdef,

Have you opened a Support Case? If not opened, for more information, please contact the WD Technical Support team for the best assistance and troubleshooting:

Have you found a way?
That’s one very annoying limitation.

Unfortunately, WD support told me that Amazon developed this add-on.
They can’t help me further, and they won’t be able to develop a new feature…
I don’t know how we can proceed, to avoid using AWS S3, but still using any compatible S3 service.
