My drive won’t recognize WD My Book drive. Windows 11, with all updates. Nothing shows, even on the WD drive utilities app. It does show on an old work computer, that also has win11.
Since it works on another Windows 11 PC the drive is likely fine. I’d try a different USB port and cable then reinstall the USB controllers and chipset drivers on the affected PC. Windows Update does not always install the latest ones.
Agreed, it’s definitely a local system glitch rather than a dead drive. Beyond the basic chipset refresh, I’d specifically hunt down the USB power-saving settings in Device Manager, as Win11 updates love to put high-draw USB ports to sleep. Out of curiosity, when you plug it into the broken PC, does the drive actually spin up and light up, or does it stay completely dead? That would tell us if it’s a data-blocking driver issue or a straight-up power delivery failure.
I’ve run into something similar after switching computers. Before assuming the drive has failed, it’s worth trying a different USB port or cable and checking whether it shows up in Disk Management. If the drive is recognized but your files aren’t, Remo Recover has been a good option in my experience for getting the data back before making any changes.
How far is Remo. Sounds like a good tool to have anyway.
