Cryto Ransom Attack

Has anyone tried to recover files from smartware after a ransom malware attack. I got hit by Crypto 2.0 and I could not recover from any of my smartware backups. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance

Hello,

You can try accessing the WD Smartware backup folder manually. The folder is located in the root of your drive and it is called “WDSmartware.swstor”. You can browse this folder and copy your files manually into your computer.

I’d like to know more about events involving Ransomware and Smartware backups.

Were you keeping several version of the files (up to 25)?

Were all your smartware backups being sent to the same folder?

If so, then were all your smartware backups encrypted, including the other computers backing up to the drive?
