Corrupted files; broken backup?

Lately a lot my files on my My Passport 500 GB have been getting corrupted.

AVG Anti-Virus scan says that file M:\WD_Windows_Tools\WDabackup\setup.exe is "signed with a broken digital signature, issued by: Memeo Inc. 

I haven’t dropped the hard drive even once.

Is there any way for me to fix the hard drive and/or retrieve my files?

Have you been disconnecting the drive without safely removing it?  Because that can easily corrupt your partition.  Do you have the data in another location, as you should?

Were you able to solve this problem? I am having the exact same issue. Just joined the WD Community because I have the same thing happening. Any insight? Thanks in advance.
