Convert wtv to dvrms, no sound in file?

#1

I record everything from Windows 7 Media Centre for the family and 99% of the time, everything is okay. To play on the ‘Live’ box, I convert WTV files using windows 7’s "Convert to DVRMS’ function and then copy it over to a small hard disk attached tot he device.

In one out of every 30 recordings, there is no sound in the video when played on the ‘Live’ but there is when that same video is played on any of three computers in the house.

Has anyone else ever encountered this strange pheomenon? I am totally baffled…

Looks pretty clear to me, Fangles…

Assuming you got ALL the output, it’s clear that, indeed, there’s no AUDIO in that file.   As in, nothing.   It’s a video-only file with no audio tracks in it.

Hello Tony, I thought I made it clear in my first post:

“In one out of every 30 recordings, there is no sound in the video when played on the ‘Live’ but there is when that same video is played on any of three computers in the house.

So there obviously is an audio track but the ‘live’ can’t see it.

What did I miss, extra output from the media info tool? I thought I got it all. Maybe I need more coffee or a new brain.

“Assuming you got ALL the output,” means all the output from the media info tool? (I can get anything wrong without trying)

Try to repost the mediainfo again. What you posted had no audio track. If mediainfo does not see an audio track then there is no audio track in the file. No audio track then WDTV cannot play it.

#7

Or, if there IS audio, it’s in a malformed container that neither the WD nor MediaInfo recognize…

#8

Well, wdtv may not see it but i’m listening to it right now on my computer (grin).

Okay, will have another go with mediainfo tonight. Thanks Tony.

#9

Well, I ran MediaInfo again and it still says the same thing.

I’m beginning to believe what you said about a malformed header and whatever codec is on my three computers is either smarter or more forgiving than the one on the live and thus can lay it.

Oh well, it’s only one in 30 and I can sit here late at night and watch it on the computer.

No more tv tomorrow, big day ahead.
