Constant Noise & Static sound from my PC speakers when My Pasport Essential 750G is Connected

Why do I hear constant noise (static or scratching sounds) from my speaker while Passport is connected? BTW the mute function of speakers does not eliminate this annoying noise.

 There is also an intermittant hum noticeable. This seems to happen when something perhaps is being backed-up.

All I have ever done is back-up since I installed just yesterday.

21 hours so far to backup 19 gigs.

Hi there, how is the drive connected to the computer? Directly or using a hub? What if you try different cables or different ports, or a different computer? I suspect this should happen since the computer is feeding the passport from a USB port so it can affect your MoBo unless you have a good power supply.
