This is a simple / stupid question. After set up, does the MyCloud have to maintain a wired connection to my modem/ router? Or does it have something like a wireless router within itself? Thanks!

Always wired. Won’t work otherwise.

Having a gigabit router is very much preferred, but you don’t need one right away if you have a (less expensive) gigabit network switch that the PC and the My Cloud are plugged into. You should plug your router into switch as well. but you will only get gigabit speed between the PC and My Cloud, but not between other devices on your network (unless router IS a gigabit model).
