Connecting your old WD external hard drive to your new PC

Never had to do this yet but is connecting your previous WD external hard drive to a new PC just as easy as disconnecting it from the old PC and reconnecting it to the new PC? Will it magically just appear on your screen when you plug it in and then you can extract all your pictures and other files from your WD external hard drive to your new PC?

Welcome to the Community.

Unless the hard drive is very old (Lack of drivers) or using an incompatible file system, it should be as easy as connecting it to your new computer.

so that is the response - nothing else, just ‘should be easy’ - so unhelpful it isn’t funny

Hello,

What operating system are you have on the new computer? Normally USB drives are plug and play as Trancer said if the drive is really, old you might encounter some issues connecting but this does not mean it will be a sure thing, however if the drive is not so old, this should not have any problems connecting to the new computer.

I would be also good to know what model unit drive you have.
