Hi, this is my first question on this community I hope you’ll be able to help me because I can’t find the answer on Google or in this forum…
I’m trying to connect the USB to SATA bridge of a WD my book essential to another HDD.
I don’t have any data loss issue, I don’t care of loosing data on that disk and my original WD caviar green 2Tb that was in the enclosure is working great in my computer.
I’m trying to do this because I found a 250Gb WD SATA HDD 3.5" and I have the USB to SATA bridge on a shelf. I though it would be a good idea to create a new external disk and this bridge has the sleep mode option that I like.
Before I opened the enclosure, everything was working perfectly, no USB3 connector issue. I just needed a new 2Tb disk in my computer. I was very gentle opening it and didn’t broke or force anything.
My concern is that when I’m connecting the 250 Gb disk with the bridge, it shows as unallocated space with a write protection on it in win7 disk management.
On a SATA to USB adapter, the 250 Gb disk is working fine, MSDOS partition table and NTFS formatted.
With the bridge on it, I tried
-
There is no jumper on the disk
-
Bootrec /fixmbr
-
Diskpart detail → Read only : No
Tried to cleared the read only attribute anyway -
tried the regedit write protect trick
-
GPT or MSDOS partition table
-
Chkdsk
-
HdShredder
-
Gparted
-
test disk to rebuild the partition table
-
Overwritten first 512 bytes with dd
Nothing worked…
So my question is, did I missed something ? Is the bridge only supposed to be working with the original disk or is it just wrecked ??? Is it possible to make it work with other disk ??
Thank you for your help.
Edit :
I added the photo of the PCB in case it helps…
