I bought the drive to be able to record TV shows but a message comes up asking me to reformat the drive. I have not yet connected the drive to my computer but there appears to be folders on the drive. Will I do any harm by reformatting? Do I need to connect to my computer first? The manual only talks about connecting to a Windows or Mac, not a TV.

the TV will format to a file system compatible to work
no need to connect to your computer
be careful when swapping the drive from TV to PC since it can get corrupted and will need to format again
