I’m confused! Also not very computer savvy with the hardware side. I’ve read so many threads on here and just confused myself more I think. So… does my system need to be connected to the internet to be able to use the app on my phone? I would also like to install it on my laptop. 
Yes, the NVR needs to be connected to the Internet to use the app. You need to use the provided Ethernet cable and plug it into both the NVR and your Internet router. Connecting to the NVR using a computer is a little more complicated as you’ll need to find the NVR’s IP address and enter it into the search bar of Internet Explorer (doesn’t work with the Edge browser).
