Confused about RMAs, any help is really appreciated

Well, my problem is when trying to complete an advanced RMA for my Hard drive it says “A hold will be placed against your credit or debit card for the amount of the current market value of the replacement product for up to 30 days”. And the total hold amount is $300, but my hard disk drive is only about $60 to buy. Why would a replacement of a relatively cheap product cost $300, if I don’t provide the defective product within 30 days? Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question, but what am I missing?

Market value is not the same as retail price, the market value is ofter exaggerated vs. the real cost. It’s just a method to make it harder for you to decide to keep it.
