Computer Shut down

Hi all!

I think that this is my first post here in a WDC forum!

I have what is probably a very basic question.  When I shut down my computer for the evening can I safely do so with my Passport still connected?  I have done so on a couple of occasions and the activity light keeps on blinking and I get a clicking sound from the drive.  Should I do a Safe Removal first?

Normally, external drives power down with the computer, there are few computers that keep providing power to the USB ports, I normally safely remove any USB powered drive from the computer, before shut down, just to avoid any issues.

I was kind of figuring that was the case.  This was my Dad’s computer which was built for him by a family friend and I got it when my Dad got a new Dell.
