Computer recognises a WD device but swears it has no driver installed

Hi… desperation led me here. I use a HP pavilion with Vista : On power up a while ago I had a screen message saying that windows was having to sort out my external drive (My Book 500 gig). I was unsure about this but allowed it to run. Lo and behold my pictures and family tree info was no longer available. Now my G drive (said MyBook) is not acceptable. I need to load a driver.
Of course I’m out of warranty and have no idea how to proceed… Perhaps this should be a different thread? As the computer recognises a WD device but swears it has no driver installed!

Any help would be gratefully received.

Hi there, can you post the model number of your drive? Most WD drives use generic Windows drivers but if it is available then it will be in their page.
