Computer detects My Passport Essential Se as Unknown Device

So, I bought a WD My Passport Essential Se WDBABM0010BBK around a year and a half ago and it worked fine for the Windows 7 laptop I am currently on.

However, after not having used the exhd for awhile, I tried using it again and my laptop would no longer recognize the external harddrive and when I checked device manager, I found it as unknown device and when I checked the device status, it read “The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28). There is no driver selected for the device information set or element. To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver”.

I then tried it on two other computers; a windows 7 desktop and a windows xp netbook , and found that I still had the same problem. I tried checking the downloads section and couldn’t find any drivers to update the device with.

So, is there anything I can do to fix this problem?

Try this driver

Check on Disk Management and see if the drive is not initialized.
