Compatibility should not be an issue here.
This router hit the market after the WD “approved list” was created, so of course it will not be on the list. Nevertheless, this is a quality modern router and it works with all sorts of equipment; WD Live Plus included.
I know, because I have the WD Live Plus, and this past spring I bought the RT-N56U to replace the trusty (but aging) Linksys WRT54G. I also returned the router the next day, because (unlike the older Linksys router) it did not have enough wireless range for our house! Routers with internal antenna often can not produce enough signal for wide range requirements.
I decided to step up to the next model that has three external antenna; the RT-N66U But, it was much pricier, so I waited a few months and the price of it had dropped around $25. I got one last month and it works great on both wireless bands in our house, after aiming the antenna for best reception and selecting the best channels to be on.
I used a very handy and free program called inSSIDer to “see” mine and all the wireless signals around me to set up the new router; select channels, etc. Highly recommended program, and you can get it here: http://www.metageek.net/
You will also want to go to the ASUS website and download and install the latest firmware – and check back often as they keep fixing and adding features. Unlike the newest WD Live Plus firmware, the ASUS firmware WORKS!
Also, our house is completely CAT5 wired, so for the most part everything is hard wired to the router via wall outlets and a CAT5 box. All iGadgets work fine everywhere in the house and even outside of the house a bit.
BTW, I found and purchased my RT-N66U from a well known seller here – it is the best price on the net:

The new router improves our internet bandwidth from 30mbps to 35mbps because of its improved throughput. So, you should not have problems with your new router other than what I have mentioned, and if you do, then step up to the next model as I did.
