Community maintained firmware

Bill, I saw in one of the latest firmware threads that you though it unlikely that there will be any further releases of the firmware.  Is there any chance that WD will release the code for the community develop new firmware releases?  Or am I completely barking?:smileyvery-happy:  I reckon I could fix the random playback of audio files in about 10 minutes.

I think you’re barking, mad  LOL

I doubt that will ever happen

release a closed source binary

while it’s a modified version, is still being used in newer devices

and even if they did, I doubt it’s a 10 minute fix

well, unless you have some serious skills

the part of the firmware handling playback is dmaosd

which is a closed source MIPS ASM binary

besides that, most of the firmware is easily modified

if your down with homebrew

here’s a little bash script I wrote http://forum.wdlxtv.com/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=6942

which will randomize playback of video or audio files

custom firmware is required

Sorry, PJ, just saw your post.  Unfortunately, I doubt it.
