Chkdsk alternatives for FAT32? (14TB My-Book)

What is the recommended procedure when a FAT32 My-Book (in this case 14TB) starts reporting drive errors and recommends they be fixed?

Is there a process that will avoid removal of files / dirctories with issues?

Is it better to repair under MacOS or Windows10?

  1. You should never run chkdsk on a drive without first backing up the data
  2. FAT32 is not recommended for such a large drive and you should consider using exFAT (after backing up your data first)
  3. As was mentioned, it would be wise to check the SMART to see if any errors are being reported.
